5 Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 23

Thanksgiving closures and a reminder for a smart meters delay list.

  1. City Hall, the Calabasas Library, the Leonis Adobe and the local branch of the U.S. Post Office will be closed on Thursday due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
  2. Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Calabasas Patch has lined up some recipes for homemade gravy and savory acorn squash for the Thursday holiday. Also, check out some ideas for keeping the kids busy during their holiday break.
  3. And after chowing down that turkey with all the fixins, stop by the Commons at Calabasas on Nov. 29 for the annual Christmas tree lighting celebration. The free event that features a holiday show, crafts and a meet-and-greet with Santa Claus begins at 6 p.m.
  4. The city of Calabasas is reminding homeowners that they can postpone smart meter installations by signing up for a delay list. Southern California Edison smart meters are gradually rolling out throughout California. The devices transmit power usage data to energy providers versus manual meters, which have to be read in person. Smart meter installations in Calabasas are set to begin next year.
  5. Today will be sunny with a high of 69, according to the National Weather Service.
