5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 21

  1. It's Saturday once again and that means it's time for the weekly Calabasas Farmers Market. Stop by Calabasas Road just west of El Canon Avenue between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and check out dozens of vendors selling everything from fruits and veggies to meat and desserts.
  2. Join Volunteer Naturalist Arthur at and discover how local Chumash Indians used the natural resources of their environment for thousands of years to create a sustainable way of life on this easy 1-mile walk. 26800 Mulholland Highway. Event begins at 10 a.m. and admission is $7.
  3. Got some old tech devices that need dumping? A monthly e-waste collection  event will be held at the Vons at 23381 Mulholland Dr. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Acceptable electronics include televisions, cell phones, personal computers, light bulbs, copiers, fax machines, laptops, mainframe computers, microwave ovens, and printers. Please do not bring hazardous waste.
  4. Youngsters are invited to explore the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve as part the Mountains Restoration Trust's Youth Naturalist Program. Meet at the basin at 9:30 a.m. There's a nominal fee and the event is for kids ages 8-12. 6335 Woodley Ave, Van Nuys, CA.
  5. There's a 100 percent chance for showers today with a high of 62, according to the National Weather Service.
