5 Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 23

A fun historical society event, a poker league meets and Study Buddies at the library.

  1. Explore recipes from the 1950-80’s in cookbooks from the Calabasas Historical Society collection. Cookbooks focus on California missions, hospitality and heritage. The free event begins at the Calabasas Library noon.
  2. The Future Legends of Poker league will host its weekly tournament at the Sagebrush Cantina at 7 p.m. No actual betting takes place during poker matches. Click here for more information.
  3. Are you an elementary or middle school student in need of homework help? Brainy Calabasas High students are here to tutor you. Study Buddies will convene at the library at 3:30 p.m.
  4. Calabasas High students will perform their rendition of The Laramie Project, a tragic telling of the violent death of Matthew Shepard, a young gay Wyoming student. The play begins at the campus at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are available online; $15 for adults, $10 for students.
  5. Today will be sunny with a high of 79, according to the National Weather Service.
