5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 26

An emergency budget meeting about the school district, a magician to perform at the Commons and the Rotary Club meets.

  1. Las Virgenes Unified officials will hold a budget crisis meeting at 7 p.m. at Chaparral Elementary School. About 50 teachers districtwide are facing layoffs due to budget cuts at the state level. The district says a donation of $275 per each enrolled student would help teachers keep their jobs.
  2. The Gourd Society will meet at 7 p.m. at the Beginners are welcome at this on-going workshop of gourd artists. Experience new techniques and ideas. Click here for more information.
  3. It's Tuesday and that means it's time for another installment of Kids Club at the Commons. Jersey Jim the magician will perform a family comedy magic show at 6 p.m.
  4. The Rotary Club of Calabasas will meet at 12:10 p.m. at Spumoni. New members are always welcome. This week's special guest is Paul Wineman, who served as a United States Army Green Beret Advisor to the Imperial Iranian Army.
  5. Today will be breezy with a high of 78, according to the National Weather Service.
