Guide To Make a Home Safe for Seniors

Even for seniors who keeps up with their exercise, age can still catch up to them, and their risk of falling increases if they are experiencing problems such as vision impairments, balance issues, and generally more fragile . Falling is dangerous for all, but it is especially dangerous for seniors are more prone to head traumas and bone fractures, and falls are actually the leading cause of death for people 65 and older.

To minimize the risk of falling, fall-proofing the home is essential for seniors aging in place.  First, remove any hazards around the house.  These include boxes in the middle of the floor, loose rugs, electrical cords, etc.  It is also important to provide proper lighting to make navigating the house less challenging.

The bathroom is also a common spot for seniors to fall.  Things you can do to prevents falls include installing a grab handle bar, using a shower chair, and adding nonskid mats.
