Calabasas Gets 'First Independent Boutique' Hotel

The former Country Inn and Suites, located at 23627 Calabasas Road, will relaunch in May as The Anza, an upscale, independent hotel.

The Anza–A Calabasas Hotel, formerly Carlson's Country Inn and Suites, will open to the public in early May as Calabasas' first independent boutique property, according to the business' operating company, Evolution Hospitality.

Purchased last July by Channel West Group and Arris Investments LLC, affiliates of Evolution Hospitality, the property has undergone a $6 million dollar renovation and is being touted as "casual and sophisticated but not overly trendy," by Evolution Hospitality's press release.

Patch reported in January that the project was reviewed and approved by the Historic Preservation Commission, having been found to fit the character of Old Town Calabasas and is “compliant with the Old Town Master Plan," said City Planner Tom Bartlett.

According to the press release, guest rooms will average 400 square feet in size. In addition the pool area will be upgraded with the addition of new cabanas, fire pit, furniture and a trellis. Renovations include new lighting and plumbing throughout the property which is designed to be energy efficient.

The Anza's restaurant will be the Graze Bistro & Bar, which will serve "simple but gourmet food for breakfast and dinner, then transition to a bar in the evening with craft beers and California wines available," according to the release. Additional hotel amenities include a new business center, fitness room and a marketplace for snacks and sundries.

No official opening date has been scheduled.

"At this point we are to far out to set any solid dates for the soft opening or grand opening," said Lynn Kozlowski. "It looks like the doors will open to the public in early May as planned."
