Maureen Whalen Named New Commerce Chamber CEO

New chamber chief has 25 years experience in business, marketing and public relations.

Maureen Whalen was recently named the new CEO of the and assumed the role on Monday,

Whalen has 25 years of experience in marketing and public relations, having worked at for-profits and non-profits such as the March of Dimes and Ronald McDonald House Charities.

"As we interviewed many fine candidates who applied for the position, we were continually impressed with Maureen’s range and depth of her work experience and knowledge of Chambers," Washburn said in a statement. "Maureen will be an effective leader for the Chamber and bring it to new heights."

Whalen studied communications and business at CSU Sacramento and pursued graduate studies at Dublin City University. She continued graduate work at the University of San Francisco, where she studied human resources and organization development.

"In high school, I had an open invitation to accompany my dad to his continuing education seminars," she said in a statement. "I always gravitated toward those that had to do with communications, specifically the way that people relate to each other within the context of a business."

Whalen's background includes being an active members for chambers in Sacramento, Long Beach, Simi Valley and the Greater Conejo Valley.

Whalen's career also includes coordinating the feasibility study that led to the founding of a new college-prep high school for at-risk youth in Sacramento. She was hired to facilitate management-level training programs for Bank of America and has helped organized various wine and music festivals throughout California.

"Carol has played a vital role in our community from the incorporation of Calabasas as a city, to building over a decade of success for the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce," Whalen said in a release. "The board is comprised of highly capable and vibrant business persons.  I simply need to keep doing what has been done, and then build upon the framework of success that Washburn and the board members – past and current – have built. The groundwork for further growth and business development has been laid.”
