Last Minute Independence Day Specials

Three local restaurants are staying open for the 4th of July and serving up holiday specials.

Before the (legal) fireworks displays on July 4 on Sunday, there might not seem to be much to do in Calabasas.

Luckily, those assumptions are wrong. While many places are observing the holiday, the few open options on that day are fantastically diverse. Eat and enjoy the freedoms of family, friends, and a fun, leisurely Independence Day at the following restaurants.

From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday, the cafe will also be presenting the 33rd Annual Lakeside Fun Run alongside a pancake breakfast. About 400 walker/runner families are anticipated, with an on-site registration fee of $20, according to event organizer Deborah Heumann.

"We try to make it as family oriented as possible," Heumann said.

Feel like watching, but not running? Breakfast is $6 adults, and $5 children for kids. With a small price tag, and a big dose of adrenaline, the run and the breakfast are sure to be a home run.

As for the run down on the races, there are different ones: the 4-mile run, 2-mile run and 2-mile walk. There's also half-mile and quarter-mile races for kids.

The event starts at 7:30 a.m. and is sponsored in part by the Calabasas Park Homeowners Association. To register for the race visit, click here to download the form.

Sagebrush Cantina

With the award-winning Mother's Day champagne brunch long gone, the Sagebrush Cantina now looks to provide a brunch worthy of Independence Day celebration on Sunday morning. It requires reservations for groups of only seven or more. Not that big of a group? Not to fret, regular service starts at 2:15 p.m.

The breakfast is a Tex Mex-style feast, so bring your appetite. The price is $23.95 for adults and $13.95 for children, and kids under the age of 5 eat for free. Sagebrush is located at 23527 Calabasas Rd. For reservations, call 818-222-6062.

La Paz Mexican Seafood Restaurant

The ever-popular La Paz brunch will be in full swing on Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Unlike Mother's Day, reservations aren't sold out--not quite yet, according to the manager.

Where as he advised to call several months in advance for Mother's Day, he urged prospective Sunday morning patrons to "call for reservations right away for a chance, OK?"

With a $30 per person price tag, the fee covers tip, tax, mariachis and more. La Paz is located at 4505 Las Virgenes Rd. For reservations, call 818-880-8076.
