Gas Prices Still Falling

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County is $4.259 heading into the weekend.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gas in Los Angeles County fell nearly a cent Friday to $4.259, though Calabasas pump prices are at least six cents higher.

This is the seventh consecutive daily decrease after prices rose 43 times in 45 days, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The price is 3.2 cents lower than last week, but 6.6 cents hire than last month and $1.122 higher than last year at this time.

"Crude oil prices took a big tumble last week and California wholesale gasoline prices are now reportedly around $3.10 per gallon," Automobile Club of Southern California representative Jeffrey Spring told City News Service.

"The typical markup from wholesale prices is 60 to 70 cents, including taxes, fees, other costs and profits, so there's lots of room for prices to drop substantially," he said. "However, it's rare for gas prices to drop as quickly as they rise.''

There are still stations in the Calabasas area that sell gas for prices below the county average. Prices are from GasBuddy.com.
