Gas Is Up Again; Blame Hurricane Irene

The closure of East Coast refineries due to the hurricane has caused local gas prices to spike in recent days.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose on Wednesday for the 12th consecutive day,
increasing 1.6 cents to $3.83. The best price in Calabasas is $3.93.

Analysts attribute the sharp daily increases to fears of a disruption of supply of gasoline stemming from the closures of East Coast refineries because of the effects of Hurricane Irene.

The average price is 10.8 cents higher than one week ago, 1.2 cents more than one month ago and 77.2 cents above what it was at this time last year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
