Pet Store Founder Pushes Good Health Along With Treats and Toys

Calabasas resident Brad Kriser runs an all-natural pet supply store in Studio City.

It’s hard to tell that in Studio City is a pet food supply store when first walking in. There are signs outside for birthday parties and nail-trim specials. But it’s all for the dogs.

The place has taco-shaped cookies and pizza-shaped pastries. There are salmon sushi rolls for dogs, duck hearts to hide pills and real antler chew toys.

Calabasas resident Brad Kriser, founder and CEO of this all-natural pet food and supply store, said he has personally met and vetted every owner of every company’s product he sells. He makes sure he knows that it all comes from the best kinds of materials and that everything is safe, he said.

“I want to be able to answer questions about all the products for our customers, and I want to be able to help people find the best things for their pets,” said Kriser, whose shop is the latest to open in a chain that has seven in Chicago and two in the Los Angeles area.

Kriser lives in Calabasas with his wife, four children and two named Maggie and Dr. Woo. He’s owned pets all his life. A cousin showed him the positive impact of natural foods on a dog’s health, he said, and since 1999 Kriser has been seeking the best and healthiest foods for animals.

He has been particularly impressed with the clientele in Studio City, who are savvy about nutritional supplements for their dogs, plant enzymes and probiotics. “The people of Studio City are particularly intelligent about their dogs, and know how to seek out the best,” Kriser said.

He said some people simply love to pamper their pets, but they shouldn't overdo it.

“I know that some people feed their dogs better than themselves, but some dogs are happier on special diets,” Kriser explained. “Some dogs have allergies, some have had cancer and need to be on an all-raw diet. We can help with that.”

There’s a shelf of free samples of some of the pet food, and although they’re not veterinarians, the staff offers to help make your dog or cat happier about their food, resulting in pets that are more active, with shinier coats and healthier lives.
