21-Day Streak of Gas Price Increases Ends

Analysts attribute spike to refineries selling more gas overseas.

A 21-day streak of increases ended in Los Angeles County today, when the price of a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline remained unchanged at $3.96.The cheapest gas in Calabasas is $3.99.

The average price, which rose 26 cents during the streak, including
three-tenths of cent on Thursday, is now 6.1 cents higher than one week ago, 18.4 cents above what it was one month ago and 95.8 cents more than at this time last year, according to figures from the American Automobile Association and Oil Price Information
Service.

A gallon of unleaded gas in Calabasas cost $3.81 on Aug. 30, when Patch last reported on local gas prices.

The three-week long spike in gas prices was a result of refineries selling more gasoline overseas, cutting the domestic supply, according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
