MLK Day Closures Scheduled for Monday

City Hall, the Calabasas Library, Las Virgenes schools, U.S. Post Offices and banks observe the federal holiday.

City Hall offices and the Calabasas Library will be closed Monday, Jan. 16, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Las Virgenes Unified School District students also get the day off. 

Need stamps? That will have to wait until Tuesday, as the United States Postal Service offices are closed for the day, along with banks and credit unions.

Often referred to as MLK Day, the federal holiday is observed on the third Monday in January each year. It is scheduled to take place around the time of King's birthday, Jan. 15.

President Ronald Reagan signed MLK Day into law in 1983. It was first observed on Jan. 20, 1986.
