Santa Monica Mtns Visitor Center to Host Memorial Weekend Art Show & Sale

Oaxacan wood carvings, Mata Ortiz pottery and Zapotec rugs will be among the featured  artworks in the Memorial Weekend Art Show & Sale at the Santa Monica Mountains Visitor Center. The traveling event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27.

“Watching these artists at work is an amazing and magical experience,” said Sophia Wong, national park store manager .

Attendees can meet premier Oaxacan wood carver Jacobo Angeles and master Mata Ortiz potter Jorge Quintana. Wood carving demonstrations will be held daily at 12, 1 and 3 p.m.. Pottery demonstrations will also be held daily at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The art show and sale is co-sponsored by the Western National Parks Association, which operates a national park store at the visitor center.
