Calabasas High School Production Brings the World of Dr. Seuss to the Community

"Seussical" runs through Saturday night at the Calabasas Performing Arts Education Center.

Seussical, the Calabasas High summer theatre program production, is now taking center stage at the Calabasas Performing Arts Education Center through Saturday night.

The musical, which incorporates different renowned Seuss characters, features students from grades seven through twelve, some not even from the high school, said director Bill Garrett.

“One of the things I love about this summer program is that anyone could audition,” said Garrett. “It gives a lot of students the opportunity to grow and build their skill set.”

The musical tells the story of Horton the elephant and how he stands by what he believes in as he protects the Whos of Whoville. The Grinch and the Cat in the Hat are just a few of the beloved Dr. Seuss characters that make an appearance.

Landen Starkman, a Calabasas High student, plays Horton the elephant said he was excited to be part of the play and hopes to pursue acting in the future.

“We spent six weeks working on this play,” said Starkman. “I really want to do acting as a career, I want to study it in college.”

During Thursday's performance, the audience responded positively to the production.

“I loved, it was a lot better than I expected, they had wonderful voices and good acting," said Lala Lane.

Seussical will have two more performances Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for children and $22 for adults.  The show runs two hours, that includes intermission.
