Let the St. Patrick's Day Festivities Begin

Here's where you can get your Irish on.

Here are some fun ways to celebrate the life of Ireland's Saint Patrick, right here in Calabasas.

First, a little background: Patrick converted the Gaelic Irish from pagans into Christians. Legend tells that he used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the conception of the Holy Trinity. He apparently also put the curse of God on venomous snakes in Ireland, casting them into the ocean to drown. Allegedly, there are no snakes in Ireland to this day. Patrick’s death was recorded on March 17, in the year 461.

But forget the snakes: Where are the green beer and cupcakes? Here is a cheat sheet for St. Paddy's fun, which falls on March 17 this year:

The City of Calabasas will have a free Saint Patrick's Day Celebration on Saturday, March 12 from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. at the . There will be Irish food, entertainment, face painting, rock climbing, moon bounce, photo shoots, sports and activities for the kids. Irish band Innisfree, The Claddagh School of Irish Dancers and The Tribal Caravan of Belly Dancers will be performing.

Green beer and live music will enliven the sawdust staple of the 91302 on the 17th, and burritos will be banished in favor of Irish boiled dinner specials. Good times and family-friendly day-long festivities will honor the snake-banishing patron saint of Ireland.

The popular bakery wll be rolling out no blarney drop-dead delicious treats, including:

–Guinness stout chocolate cupcake with Bailey’s buttercream frosting;
–Bailey’s Irish Cream cheesecake with a brownie graham crust and Bailey’s Sour Cream topping;
–St. Paddy’s morning cake: a butter oatmeal cake with Irish whiskey topped and filled with coffee buttercream;
–Butter toffee whiskey cream pie with whiskey chantilly cream;
–Shamrock frosted sugar cookies.

The following treats are available on St. Patrick’s Day only:

– “Kiss Me I’m Irish” vanilla cupcakes and “Happy St. Patty’s Day” chocolate vanilla;
–“Top of the Morning” Box: a gift-wrapped box with a variety of cupcakes; including:  red velvet, Guinness stout, “Happy St. Paddy’s Day” and “Kiss Me I’m Irish” cakes.

The Rock Store

The St. Paddy's Day drinking begins today and continues on until next weekend. The bar, located halfway between Malibu and Calabasas, is full of attitude, live music and good food.

The Rock Store is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday only. They will not be open on the actual holiday, but are celebrating the holiday starting now.

Finns in Santa Monica is a happpening spot, owned and operated by a real Irish lass, Geraldine Gilliland.  The joint delivers delicious Irish food, music and ambience.

Crown and Anchor Pub

This Britannia eatery tips its cap to Ireland in grand style, and will be open on March 17 at 11 a.m. for a fun day of Irish celebrations and libations. There will also be live Irish music by the Shenanigans from 4 p.m.–8 p.m., and live music by Pie from 8–midnight. There will also be bagpipes, drums and dancers performing three shows at 5, 7 and 9 p.m.
