Former director of elder care programs at UCSF for nearly 10 years, Dr. Jane Mahakian is President of Aging Matters, Inc, a geriatric care management company in Orange County and Rancho Palos Verdes that specializes in working with older adults with dementia and their families. Dr. Mahakian has a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Dr. Mahakian conducts evaluations, provides solution based counseling, and behavioral interventions for people with mild cognitive impairment and dementia. She also develops care plans and implements these plans to optimize the life of the person with a dementia and helps families select the best alternative living situation or coordinates quality in home care, which allows the person to live safely in their own home.
Dr. Mahakian is a certified member of the National Association of Geriatric Care Managers and serves as a Board Member for the Armenian Eyecare Project. She is founder of the Cognitive Impairment Resource Council of Orange County. She is also USA representative for the Alzheimer’s Association of Armenia.
