5 members of Los Angeles Splash! synchronized swimming team are set to compete for a national title at the 2013 eSynchro U.S. Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championships from June 21-29 in Riverside, Calif. The meet is the largest synchronized swimming meet in the world, and features competition in four age groups: 11-12, 13-15, 16-17 and 18-19.
Local qualifiers include:
· Melanie Bezinover, age 12
· Brianna Harnack, age 12
· Bianca Hofstatter, age 11
· Mia Humberd, age 11
· Kathy Wrightsman, age 11
These athletes will compete in 11-12 solo, duet, trio and team competition. They qualified for the national championships by placing among the top three finishers at the regional championships held in Santa Clarita on May 18, 2013, which featured top athletes from Southern California and Arizona.
Synchronized swimming requires a unique combination of strength, agility, endurance, flexibility and speed. LA Splash! athletes practice 11 hours per week, 3-4 days per week at the San Fernando Regional Pool.
LA Splash! was formed as a new club in January 2013, and already has had great success qualifying four swimmers for the USA National Team Trials and five swimmers for the Age Group National Championships. Calabasas resident and Olympic Hopeful Bianca Hofstatter qualified for the third round of national team trials this spring. According to Bianca, "In this sport, one needs to be a great, flexible gymnast, a graceful ballerina, a very strong swimmer, and you have to hold your breath like a dolphin." The team is led by coaches Kristin Moya, Angela Camero and Karen Rosolowski—the World Masters Champion Trio in 2006.
We have two beginner classes this summer. Parents interested in enrolling their children in a beginner’s class can email email@example.com or visit our website, http://www.losangelessplash.com for more information.
