Students in grades 1-5 at Round Meadow now have the opportunity to run or walk on the school playground track two mornings a week (Tues/Thurs 7:30/7:45-8am). For every two miles a child run/walks, they will be awarded a Toe Token. These are brightly colored plastic feet designed to be worn on a 24 inch necklace that will be provided. These tokens are awarded as a sense of accomplishment, recognition and source of positive image building.
The students will learn accountability, mathematics and record-keeping skills. There will also be awards handed out periodically to show recognition towards those that hit certain “Mile Stones” throughout the year.
The Galloping Colts co-chairs, Mike Levinson and Laura Page, will be there both mornings to motivate and track each student’s progress. By participating in the Galloping Colts Mileage Club, the students will discover that physical activity can be fun and rewarding! The students will: • Enhance scholastic skills • Build muscle • Burn calories • Reduce stress • Make new friends • Create good lifelong habits • Get physically fit Best of all, parents can now encourage your kids to be a part of an organized physical fitness club that ensures they are exercising consistently for 15-30 minutes before school twice a week as well as on their own time at lunch and recess! And finally a main key advantage is that students are more focused, and ready to learn in the classroom. This will improve their self-esteem, which is also a key advantage in children’s academic achievement. All the parents need to do is make sure kids have some comfortable running shoes & encourage and compliment the kids as they improve their fitness levels!
