AmeriCorps NCCC Members Help Restore Land for Oak Trees

A team of ten corps members from the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) program helped to remove invasive plants from land where oak trees were recently planted to revitalize and restore the natural ecosystem in Malibu Creek State Park.

Corps members served with volunteers from TreePeople, an environmental nonprofit organization, and members of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. Their work in the park promotes the growth of oak trees, which are native to California. Oak trees conserve water during the dry season, unlike nonnative plants such as mustard.
