Green Hair For Summer Swimmers

Don’t be afraid or fooled by the slight hint of sea green you may spot throughout your hair after a well-deserved swim under the sun.  Although many swimmers and fellow water lovers alike may not notice a change in hair color right away, it has been proven that the copper used in pool water is the sole culprit for which a slight hint of green is found upon the ends of your hair.  Due to a subtle chemical reaction, here are a few facts for those of you who would like to gain a little more insight on how to prevent chlorine from affecting the color of your hair.

One of the most common errors swimmers make before diving in to the pool is forgetting to apply a protectant on your hair prior to taking a dip in the water.  Always remember, apply a light product such as Unite’s 7Seconds Leave-In Conditioner or Unite’s Argan Oil to the hair before indulging on any swimming adventure.

Unfortunately, when your hair is left untreated from chlorine exposure the precipitation of copper oxide intensifies.  When you combine copper oxide with a hint of sulfide, you end up with a not-so tasty treat for the hair to eat up.  As we are approaching the fall weather and heading in to the holiday season, it is imperative that you take a few simple steps in to reviving those beautiful locks back to life.

As we all know the weather is constantly changing and as a hairstylist, the best advice I can give to a client in order to maintain and achieve cooler hues this holiday season is to reflect back on what you and your hair may have endured this summer while playing under the sun.  Understanding what your hair has gone through will allow you to realize what you are working with.  If you are looking to achieve a fresh new color before the holidays, I recommend preparing and reviving your locks beforehand.

This combination of services will not only help your hair-color last longer, but also give your hair a softer touch and beautiful shine.  With the proper regimen, correct hair products, and a little patience the health of your hair will begin to improve in no time.
