Recently I came across Oprah’s Master Class with Maya Angelou and something in my head clicked. Everything about the woman was incredibly honest, and moreso inspiring.
One quote in particular stood out to me: ”I am a human being, nothing human can be alien to me.” More than ever this has began to ring truer than I could imagine, which for many reasons makes me want to run, hide, or do anything to escape from the realities of life.
My future is in the hands of well, me. And scary as it may be I believe that for once, my opportunity to overcome those fears, is possible.
With this desire to achieve success, within reach, yet so challenging as I face the many obstacles to get there, I am learning to surround myself with encouraging people.
One thing I believe everyone needs reminding of is the fact that no one “human being” should be intimidated by one’s own fears, those “alien” things. We truly are capable of achieving those dreams and should never let one thing or one person keep us from being the best we can be…because I believe that the ultimate happiness lies within making those dreams reality.
Although the road to get there will be filled with many lessons, the journey was never meant to be easy. First, one must gain knowledge, overcome obstacles, and have the courage to flourish as an individual.
I have come to accept all of this and I only hope to spread my wisdom and experiences upon others and be a mentor to the younger generation, but let’s be real. I am only 20 years old and have plenty more to learn, but that’s the exciting part. So, I will.
