Going Green at the Salon

We're not talking a crazy dye job: Earth-friendly finds meet new innovative thinking, giving you new tools and ideas for recycling

Something I often times take for granted are the simple pleasures of life and everything our planet earth has to offer.

As I get caught up in a daily routine, I tend to forget that I need to not only take care of myself but our planet as well.  So I took a step back, and reevaluated the situation, asking questions and finding answers.

I have recently become more familiar in utilizing tools and respecting the earth.  I would love to share with you some of my favorite eco-friendly finds and hopefully inspire you in the process.

My favorite recent discovery is called a “refill station.”  Never heard of it?  Well it can be used in many different forms and as a hairstylist, I love this concept.  Convenient, cost effective, and reliable. The concept is meant to recycle, but not your typical go green and throw your plastic trash in that big green environmental machine, but more so to utilize what you already have.

At Salon Nuuvo in Calabasas, we encourage clients to bring in any bottle, large or small, refill their shampoo or conditioner at our refill station, and save you a buck while you’re at it. For example, you would save four dollars on an eight ounce bottle that initially cost you twenty eight dollars. The idea is to create an all green salon with energy conserving technology, all natural products, and the desire to give back.

We as humanity can put ourselves in a better position for the future, and my hopes are to bring more awareness to this cause. Being environmentally conscious and taking a step forward on a matter most of us have thought about but have never really put too much effort into fixing. With each step we can better ourselves and in return contribute to the health of our planet.
