Mapping Calabasas: Cell Towers
Most cell phone towers or antennas are found on commercial properties or government-owned land.
There are about 54 cell phone sites up and running throughout Calabasas, each owned by one of the nation's major service provider companies, according to city officials.
Rooftops of businesses are a common location for towers or antennas because of their distance from residential neighborhoods, but Michael Klein, an associate planner with the city, said those spots may not always be available.
"First, our mountainous topography means that even our tallest office buildings are not tall enough to cover many areas of the city," he said in an e-mail. "Second, we have very few commercial zones and many residential zone … so one wireless facility on an office building may not be strong enough to cover residential neighborhoods that are far away from the office building."

For those reasons, cell phone sites can often be found on property owned by local government agencies, Klein added.
That could be the case for Calabasas' potentially latest cell phone site, which is poisted to be built by a water tank on property owned by the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District.
