Law Enforcement Officials Become Celebrity Waiters for a Day

Law enforcement officers from all over Los Angeles volunteered their time Saturday as "celebrity waiters" at participating Red Robin restaurants to collect tips for a good cause.

The "Tip-a-Cop" program, an official Law Enforcement Torch Run Campaign fundraising event, raises money to support Special Olympics Southern California. The national goal of the 2012 event is to raise more than $850,000 from all participating national programs to benefit Special Olympics athletes.

Locally, officers from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station volunteered their services for the lunch and dinner hours at the Calabasas Red Robin.

Proceeds raised from this event go to the Santa Clarita & Tri-Valley Regions of Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC). SOSC provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. By participating in sports, physical fitness and healthcare education programs, Special Olympics Southern California athletes increase self-confidence and social skills, improve physical and motor skills and have better success in leading more productive and independent lives.
