I Admit It, I'm Still Using Plastic Bags

Calabasas' plastic bag ban has been in effect for nearly a year and Los Angeles just adopted its own ban, but reusable bags haven't exactly grown on me yet.

Want to know how many reusable grocery bags I have? Zero.

Even though the city of Calabasas has handed them out for free in the past, the concept of reusable bags just hasn't been appealing to me.

In fact, I reuse plastic bags as trash bags, a practice I was raised with growing up in Glendale, or I use them for storage.

Our city government was way ahead of the eco-friendly game when it from issuing customers plastic bags more than a year ago.

From what I saw at the local and , the transition was pretty much seamless. Literally overnight, I saw Calabasas shoppers browsing store aisles with reusable bags in hand.

But I haven't caught reusable fever yet. I either opt to pay 10 cents per paper bag or I do my shopping in Woodland Hills, although that may change soon since on Wednesday, which is scheduled to go into effect in about six months.

To me, reusable bags are just another thing I have to remember and worry about. Also, reducing my personal impact on the environment just isn't that high on my priority list.

As my favorite comedian, the late George Carlin, once said, the Earth has been through much worse than human beings. Planet Earth has survived ice ages, meteor bombardments, massive floods, magnetic reversals "and we think some plastic bags and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference?"

I'm sure George was just trying to get some shock laughs. I guess I can't argue with the logic that limiting our litter is a good thing.

I have a feeling I'll eventually cross over to the green side. I just don't feel a sense of urgency yet.

I could use some motivation. How have you made reusable bags a part of your life?
