Feedback Sought for Lost Hills Overpass Improvement Project

The proposed project would replace the current two-lane bridge with a four-lane overpass.

An initial study and environmental assessment of the proposed Lost Hills Road overpass widening project is now available for public review and comment.

The $25 million venture looks to demolish the existing two-lane bridge over the 101 Freeway and replace it with a four-lane overpass to accommodate future traffic demands.

The city of Calabasas and the state's Department of Transportation prepared a proposed mitigative negative declaration/environmental assessment of the project that was released in January.

The report concludes that the 18-month construction effort would "have no effect on wild and scenic rivers, timberlands, community impacts, natural communities, threatened and endangered species, topography, seismic exposure, floodplains, wetlands or water quality, public facilities or other socio-economic features, or cultural resources."

The report spends the next more than 150 pages explaning that conclusion as well as identifying some alternatives to constructing a wider overpass.

The project's design is not final, as its developers are seeking input from community members.

Written comments must be submitted by March 12 to Caltrans (Attn: Carlos Montez, Division of Environmental Planning, 100 S. Main Street, Suite 100, MS 16A, Los Angeles, CA, 90012).

A public hearing to collect feedback is being held on Feb. 28 at City Hall.

If there are no major comments, Caltrans will proceed with the project’s design, according to an announcement for the call for comments.
