Expo Draws a Healthy Crowd

The very first Conejo Health Expo offered advice, awareness and a fun for the whole family.

Community members turned out in droves to attend the "Conejo Health Expo," held Saturday at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center.  The event, the first of its kind in the area, was sponsored by the Future Foundation and Los Robles Hospital.

People waited on long lines to donate blood, check body mass, have blood pressure checked and learn new dance steps. "We want to get people more involved in their health, and we hope this event is the first of many," said hospital trustee Jan Iceland.

Doctors gave lectures on the the latest in advances in medicine, vendors offered health-related literature and products, and nurses were on hand to answer questions. "Its really not much effort to help a lot of people," said Cherry Papanicolaou, a Los Robles nurse.

Agoura resident Uta Hughey brought her entire family and took part in a Zumba demonstration. "It's great exercise, but I love the camaraderie," she said. "People care if you’re here."
