City Sets New Recycling Goal

From free recycling bins to waste round-ups, there's several ways for locals to contribute.

City Hall wants to see 75 percent of all trash in the city by the end of 2012 to be recycled instead of heading to landfills.

That percentage, known as the recycling diversion rate, is currently at 60 percent for Calabasas, said Public Information Officer Bob Burris.

"Recycling conserves our valuable natural resources, saves energy, and keeps our air and water clean," a statement from the city read.

Here's some tips from the city on how to improve recycling habits.

  • Residential solid waste collection rates are based on the size of your trash cart. Consider switching to “super recycler” service with a 32 gallon trash and 96 gallon recycling and green waste cart. This is a very affordable service that promotes higher recycling rates. To switch services, please call Marilyn Gallagher at 805-955-4242.
