Artists to Offer Topanga Studio Tour

The self-guided tour features more than 20 studios and 50 artists in the Canyon.

More than 50 artists will participate this weekend in the Topanga Canyon Gallery Studio Tour, in which artsists open their studios to enthusiasts.

Rebecca Catterall is one of those artists. She has lived in Topanga for more than 30 years, has been a gallery member since the mid-1990's and was part of a group who revived the gallery in 2000 in its present location.

"I work in ceramics taking advantage of the range clay provides. Some is wheel-thrown, some is hand-built. I do alternative Raku such as Ferric Chloride and horsehair. Some of my work is sculptural such as my Tromp L'Oeil series (that was also featured at the John Natsoulas Gallery Tromp L'Oeil Ceramic Show is Davis, CA) and some of my work is functional stoneware," Catterall said.

Another artist, Ellen Lane of Malibu has participated in the Topanga Canyon Gallery Studio Tour almost every year. Originally from Milwaukee, she was a photographer involved in the multi-media industry.

"I moved to the Los Angeles area to take a job as a multi-media producer, but eventually left that profession to become a full-time artist. I have been in the Malibu area since 1995 where I built my current home and studio," Lane said.

She most enjoys painting and sculpture.

"Many times I mix found objects into my acrylic paintings," she said.
